The Tree That Grew Too Tall:

Microsoft Windows XP.An Operating System that was near perfect for it's time.A new UI,easily navigable(similar to the older ones though) and a Help Center that actually solved issues(more than the earlier ones anyway). The OS spread around the world's PCs like willdfire, but the part Microsoft couldn't come to terms with was that despite their security measures, there were a humongous number of pirated copies of XP circulating around the world.

As if that was not enough, till date a staggering number of computers still run the OS,and for 12 long years Microsoft has reluctantly kept support for this OS alive. But now it seems they've had enough. On April 8,2014 Microsoft ended support for Win XP.Now companies like Malwarebytes still support XP,but for how long?

Burning it down:

This is the message for Win XP users that Microsoft has in it's site

If you continue to use Windows XP now that support has ended, your computer will still work but it might become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. Internet Explorer 8 is also no longer supported, so if your Windows XP PC is connected to the Internet and you use Internet Explorer 8 to surf the web, you might be exposing your PC to additional threats. Also, as more software and hardware manufacturers continue to optimize for more recent versions of Windows, you can expect to encounter more apps and devices that do not work with Windows XP.

Also,Microsoft seems to have done an entire campaign against XP.For example, the viral "Friends don't let friends use XP".Recently, the IE team has also launched the "Escape from XP" flash game depicting some dude with a gun in an apocalyptic sidescroller featuring a giant paperclip,IE6 and a lot of error messages.Play it here.

Those using XP won't really be flinching, but I really hope banks and other such systems we rely on consider an upgrade as hackers are going to be on a roll anytime soon.If you're thinking about upgrading, now is a good time as always.
